OMR opened as due to heavy rain

Motorists are being diverted onto the Old Military Road, as the Rest and Be Thankful is closed as a ‘safety precaution’.

The diversion came into effect at 2:30pm this afternoon (November 2), and will remain in operation overnight.

It is expected that the road will be reassessed tomorrow morning.

A spokesperson from Bear Scotland said: “Motorists are advised that traffic at the A83 Rest and Be will move from the A83 under convoy control to the Old Thankful Road diversion route from 2:30pm today.  Traffic will then continue to be diverted onto the Old Military Road overnight.

“This decision has been taken as a safety precaution due to higher than anticipated rainfall today and brown water being observed in several hillside channels.

“Our team continues to have a presence on site and are monitoring conditions closely.  A further update will be issued if the weather forecast or hillside conditions mean a change to the traffic management arrangement is needed.”
