Man remanded in custody following John Street incident

A Dunoon man has been remanded in custody following an incident on John Street, Dunoon in the early hours of Saturday morning (July, 23).

The 43-year-old man appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court yesterday charged with attempted murder.

He was remanded in custody and the case was committed for further examination. He is due to appear back in court within eight days.

A 40-year-old female also appeared in court charged with assault, she was released on bail.

The pair made no plea.

This follows an incident on John Street on Saturday morning, Police told this newspaper they responded to reports just before 1.30 am.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We were called around 1.25 am on Saturday, 23 June 2022, to a report of a disturbance in the John Street area of Dunoon.

“Officers attended and a 41-year-old woman has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries.”

A significant police presence remained visible on John Street for much of Saturday, with residents of flats in John Street being evacuated.
