Following what felt like a never ending election campaign the votes were cast yesterday and the count was finalised in the early hours of this morning.

This newspaper can reveal that Brendan O’Hara, (SNP) has been returned to office for Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber.

The final results for the constituency were as follows:

Brendan O’Hara (Scottish National Party) – 15582 (34.7%), Amanda Hampsey (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party) – 9350 (20.8%), Hamish Maxwell (Scottish Labour Party) – 8585 (19.1%), Alan Reid (Scottish Liberal Democrats) –  7359 (16.4%), Melanie Hurst (Reform UK) – 3045 (6.8%), Thomas MacPherson (Independent) – 941 (2.1%).

Brendan O’Hara has been returned as MP for Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber.

The total electorate for Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber was 71,756 with 45,078 votes cast. The turnout at the polls was 62.8 per cent.

A total of 216 votes were rejected. Twentysix were rejected for voting for more than one candidate and 187 were unmarked or void for uncertainty.

It was an eventful night nationally as declarations were made across the UK, as Labour were swept to power on a super majority, with Scottish Labour winning the lion’s share of seats in Scotland.
