A number of vehicles parked on Dunoon streets were clamped over the weekend as the DVLA crack down on abandoned and untaxed cars.

The DVLA confirmed that a total of 13 cars were clamped in Dunoon for having no road tax during the first weekend in October.

The unlucky motorists will have to pay their road tax in full or a surety fee towards the tax as well as a £100 clamp release fee before the vice can be removed.

A spokesperson for DVLA said: “We operate a comprehensive package of measures to ensure that vehicle tax is convenient to pay but very hard to avoid.

“It is right that we take action against those who don’t tax their vehicles and then drive them otherwise it wouldn’t be fair to those who do the right thing.”
