Commonwealth champion trains with local boxers

Commonwealth Featherweight Champion Nathaniel Collins joined local Cowal boxers at the Dunoon Amateur Boxing Club on Tuesday, February 22.

Collins, who has held the title since July 2021, took a training session at the boxing club’s gym located at Dunoon Stadium, with eager local boxers learning from Collins’ professional experience.

Nathaniel ‘The Nightmare’ Collins holds a perfect professional record of eight wins and no losses, with three of those wins coming by the way of knockout. He began his professional career in 2018, and his been posed as one of Scotland’s brightest talents within the sport.

The Dunoon Amateur Boxing Club were delighted to have someone of his calibre take a high-energy, enjoyable training session – and they are looking to have more of the same throughout this year.

Mattie Collins, part of the DABC coaching team, was delighted to have Nathaniel along. He said: “We had an amazing night and everyone was so excited to have the chance to learn from and train with someone like Nathaniel. Many of our boxers aspire to reaching that type of level, and by him coming it gives everyone a real lift around the club and both boxers and coaches got a chance to see some of the methods top-class professionals use to train.

“As a club, we will be looking to do a similar session in the future with hope that both coaches and boxers will be able to perform to a higher level and our hope is that some of those younger boxers get an opportunity to compete for their country at the Commonwealth or Olympics.”

“DABC is also a great opportunity for anyone in our community looking to gain fitness or improve their mental health, and we have opened our gym up on a Tuesday and Thursday where we offer kids sessions between 7.00 pm and 8.00 pm, and adult sessions from 8.00 pm to 9.00 pm. This is open to anyone who would like to come along and try something new.”

For anyone interested in joining DABC, or who would like more information on what the club offers, you can find them on Facebook at Dunoon Amateur Boxing Club.
