Bute in Bloom: Vital volunteer group needs your help

Friday, June 11

Bute in Bloom members are appealing to the community of Bute for volunteers to weed and tidy up the eight rose beds on the putting greens on Saturday and Sunday, June 12 and 13. commencing at 10am.

Recently Bute in Bloom announced that the group is stepping back from competition with Keep Scotland Beautiful as it had not had the lead-in time or the resources to compete, but members are still committed to making the area brighter for locals and visitors this summer.

Iain Gillespie said: “The reason for this appeal is that since the lockdown our main gardener, who has spent a few weeks working on the rose beds, now has commitments on the mainland.

“Also, our committee are all over 70 and are becoming less agile, and Argyll and Bute Council has made it clear that if the required standard of maintenance is not continued then they will turf over the rose beds and we will lose a much loved and admired asset.

“Would anybody willing to participate in this initiative bring some gardening tools, mainly hoes. rakes and secateurs with them and would they contact me on [email protected]
