Plans Submitted to Transform Former Campbeltown Boots into Coffee Lounge

CAMPBELTOWN’S former Main Street Boots pharmacy could be revived as a coffee lounge under plans submitted to council officers.

An applicant identified as Mrs L McLean has submitted the proposal to Argyll and Bute Council, with plans to also alter and repaint the shopfront.

The Main Street branch of Boots in Campbeltown, at number 19, closed down in December 2023. Its other premises in the town, at Longrow, remains open.

Council planning officers are expected to rule on the application by late June, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.

In a brief design and access statement, planning agent Andrew Jones said: “The site consists of a couple of existing shop units on Main Street, one of which, number 19 is vacant and the other is in use as a retail food shop.

“Adjoining to both sides are existing retail shops with apartments over. Opposite across Main Street and into Longrow South are further retail units to the ground floor and flats above.

“The applications are for the change of use for number 19, Main Street from a pharmacist to a coffee lounge along with works to the front of the shop unit comprising repainting and new signage.

“The proposal consists of preparing the existing frontage of number 19 after removal of the existing granolithic tile panels and repainting as per the colour shown.

“The proposed signage will be a vinyl applied to the fascia above the windows to match number 23 to 15 in colour and font, etc.

“The works have been designed to harmonise with the existing building giving a consistency to the area by the use of the more in keeping traditional colours and styles.”
