IT WAS another terrific Sunday for Cowal FC, as they extended their unbeaten run with two impressive wins in Firhill on April 20.
The Dunoon-based community football club, open to women, trans and non-binary players aged 16 or older, showed both skill and spirit as they notched up victories against Camp Hellcats and Glasgow Saints, maintaining their 100 per cent record this season.
Despite missing several key players, Cowal FC delivered a strong performance that showcased the depth and determination of the squad.
With player of the year, Shannon Finnegan, still sidelined due to a knee injury, and top scorer, Claire Segeren, also unavailable, there were concerns the team might lack firepower. But 16-year- old Skye Kilgallon stepped up spectacularly, netting an impressive four goals across the two games while balancing her football with school exams.
In the opener against Camp Hellcats, Cowal battled both a formidable opponent and unseasonably hot weather.
Skye broke the deadlock with two well-taken goals, one with each foot.
The victory was sealed by Rachel Knight, who scored her first of the campaign with a brilliant solo effort that saw her weave past defenders before a cheeky toe-poke finish.
The second match against Glasgow Saints proved to be even more challenging.
Cowal found themselves 2-0 down before rallying back with another brace from Skye and a decisive strike from midfield maestro Jamie Collings.
It was a gutsy comeback, made possible by resilient defending and tireless teamwork.
Goalkeeper, Catherine Pearman-White, and defenders, Fay Robertson and Ramona Fomina ,were instrumental in shutting down late threats.
Captain, Stephanie Siegerson, earned plaudits for commanding performances in both games, blending grit with finesse.
Substitutes also played a vital role, with Julka Gunn injecting fresh energy into the midfield.
With these wins, Jamie Collings rises to second in the league’s scoring charts with ten goals, while Skye’s tally now stands at six.
As the only team left with a perfect record, their eyes are firmly on the final stretch of the season.
The remaining fixtures, including Sunday, April 27, against Glasgow Pars and the final match against Glasgow Pride Pink on May 18, will be pivotal.
Both sides sit two and five points behind Cowal, meaning the last two matches will be title- deciding encounters.
The club continues to welcome new players of all backgrounds and experience levels.
Training takes place on Wednesday evenings, 6-7.30pm at Black Park.
