A82 works update

IMPROVEMENT work on the A82 between Tarbet and Inverarnan remains a priority for the Scottish Government – but no timescale can yet be confirmed.

A report to go before a council committee next week has given an update on progress on the stretch of the road as it continues to seek a preferred option.

However, it is made clear that any works will not take place at the same time as repairs to the Rest and Be Thankful stretch of the A83.

Details of drainage repair work on the A82 between Balloch and Tarbet also feature in the report by a Transport Scotland official.

The report will go before Argyll and Bute Council’s Helensburgh and Lomond community planning group at its meeting on Tuesday, May 13.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: “The Scottish Government remains committed to improving the A82 between Tarbet and Inverarnan.

“We are continuing to take forward the detailed development and assessment of the preferred option for the A82 Tarbet to Inverarnan scheme.

“However, it is important to note that delivery of the scheme itself can only commence if it is approved under the relevant statutory procedures.

“The Scottish Government has been clear that construction work on the A82 Tarbet to Inverarnan scheme would not take place at the same time as the A83 Rest and be Thankful scheme in order to avoid significant disruption for local residents and businesses.

“Subject to the successful completion of the statutory process, the programme for delivery of the A82 Tarbet to Inverarnan scheme will need to be considered carefully to avoid overlap with the work on the A83.

“We are therefore not able to advise of anticipated timescales for delivery at this time, but Transport Scotland remains committed to engagement with Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority as the scheme development progresses.”

In relation to the Balloch to Tarbet stretch, the spokesperson added: “Currently BEAR is replacing the filter drain material on the verges with recycling the stone where feasible and the layby improvements scheme still needs the remaining bollards to be installed, both of which should be completed over the forthcoming weeks.”
