HOLLYWOOD COUPLE Emma Thompson and her husband, Greg Wise, have thrown their support behind the urgent campaign to save Dunoon Burgh Hall from closure.
The iconic Victorian arts venue, described as the ‘crown of Dunoon’, faces imminent closure unless £60,000 is raised by the end of March to cover wages and keep the lights on. The news comes as arts venues across the country struggle with funding crises, putting vital community spaces at risk.
Now, A-list backing has given the campaign a major boost, with Emma Thompson urging people to rally behind the beloved venue.
In a heartfelt video message, she described Dunoon Burgh Hall as: “The most extraordinary building, so beautiful, but inside it’s so alive and vibrant. They have the most wonderful arts shows and incredible resources for the elderly and the young. It’s a community hub like no other, and we are so lucky to have such a thing in Dunoon. Help us save this precious treasure.”
Her husband, Greg Wise, echoed the urgency of the appeal, saying: “Please help as much as you can, spread the word, and raise funds. Keep this wonderful building open. It’s a crown for Dunoon. It would be an absolute travesty were it to disappear.”
The video caught the attention of the national press and since then multiple media outlets have featured the couple’s support for the campaign.
Dunoon Burgh Hall plays a critical role in the community, hosting workshops, art classes, and events that support young people, carers, and vulnerable groups. Its potential closure raises serious concerns about the wider impact on the town.
An online fundraiser is now live, and supporters are being urged to donate whatever they can to save this cultural landmark.
In the coming weeks this newspaper will be publishing detailed updates on the campaign to save Dunoon’s Burgh Hall.
